Settlement Grants Program (SGP) – Geelong & Colac

The Settlement Grants Program aims to support culturally and linguistically diverse families and individuals who have been in the country for more than 6 months and less than 5 years.

SGP Casework Services
The program assists individuals and families to access the correct information in regard to settlement including immigration, housing, health, education, employment, legal, schooling, language, referrals, orientation and social support etc.

Migration services are also provided to refugee entrants.

Target Group
The target group for SGP services include:
• Permanent residents who have arrived in the last five years as humanitarian entrants or family stream migrants with low English language proficiency
• Communities who require assistance to develop their capacity to organise, plan and advocate for services to meet their own needs
• Dependents of skilled migrants who have a low English language proficiency

Services Delivered
Services delivered under the SGP in Geelong and Colac include:
• Casework
• Developing Communities (Community Development)
• Integration – Inclusion and Participation (Community Development)

SGP Community Development
Actively works on achieving positive outcomes in regards to key settlement issues for refugees and new emerging communities through recreational, educational, social and information programs.

Plus liaise and develop networks with service providers to promote a better understanding of the issues culturally and linguistically diverse communities face and deliver appropriate and responsive services.

Settlements Grant Program - Colac
A settlement support worker is based in Colac 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday), to support families and individuals who have been in the country for more than 6 months and less than 5 years.

Services include assistance and referrals for settlement related issues such as immigration, housing, health, education, employment, legal, orientation and social support. Support and assistance for newly arrived communities to increase their capacity to access necessary services and programs.

Plus networking, liaising and capacity building of mainstream services to ensure they take culturally and linguistically diverse communities needs and issues into consideration when planning for service provision for this group.

A qualified Migration Agent also visits Colac once every three weeks to provide immigration advice.
