These qualifications provide skills to workers who provide a range of community services. Together they combine a focus on working with people affected by mental illness with services and interventions to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues. This may include services such as engaging people with mental illness in community participation, prevention of relapse and promotion of recovery. Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of Indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities in the provision of services.
Work may take place in a range of contexts such as community based organisations, residential rehabilitation services, clinical settings, and outreach services, and may also involve supported employment and programmed respite care.
These qualifications cover: - Rehabilitation and support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. - Implementing community based activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability. - Mental health promotion work. - Reference to specific knowledge of mental health issues and appropriate intervention processes applied in residential and community based settings. - Defining the knowledge and skills required by support workers and care workers who work autonomously under the broad guidance of other practitioners and professionals in the community services and health sectors. - Reference to specific knowledge of mental health issues and clients with alcohol and other drugs issues and to appropriate intervention processes applied in residential and community settings.
These two qualifications are delivered in one course so that our graduates have broader employment opportunities.
Job Pathways This course may allow you to pursue employment opportunities in a range of community based organisations that provide rehabilitation, outreach and support work. This includes: - Community rehabilitation and support worker - Mental health outreach worker - Mental health rehabilitation support worker - Detoxification worker - Drug and alcohol worker - Case worker - Community support worker - Family support worker
