Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Services (IHSS)

IHSS provides refugee families with a range of services and support for a period of six months after their arrival. We are able to assist with things like case management and referral, material goods and advocacy.

Over the past 12 months Diversitat has assisted around 100 newly arrived refugees to settle in Geelong. These families have come from a variety of countries and cultures including Burma, Afghanistan, Liberia and the Congo. The majority of these people arrive having experienced significant trauma and conflict in their country of origin.

Within two days of arrival Diversitat staff initiate contact with the refugee family and ensure that their accommodation and basic needs are being met. We then develop a settlement plan which includes visits to Centrelink, a medical check up, school enrolment, securing a property lease, the use of public transport and a range of other services.

Volunteers are  used as part of this program.
