|
A refugee family in the region are set to receive a restored Ford Fiesta, helping them to navigate their new life in Geelong, and an elderly gentleman from the Northern Suburbs whose car was stolen will receive a restored Lancer giving him the independence he craves. In addition an ex drug addicted man, who has now turned his life around now helping others in the Whittington and Newcomb area will receive a Holden utility that has been restored, giving him the opportunity to help further within the community. Not only providing an opportunity for young people to get out of the classroom and into the auto workshop the program teaches the students about the full cycle of community. It demonstrates how the work they are completing not only influences the direction of their own lives, but also provides other disadvantaged community members the chance to own their own car, something some of them only ever dream about. What do a Refugee Family, an elderly man and an ex-drug addict have in common? They all received a car from the You Turn program, presented at the student's graduation on the 22nd September 2011. These recipients are as much in need as the young disadvantaged and disengaged people that walked through the doors of the You Turn workshop only weeks ago.
