| Guitar Master at the Pulse |
|
American guitar master Justin Derrico dropped into the Pulse on Friday the 19th of August to hold a clinic and answer questions from an enthusiastic crowd. About 60 local musicians attended and were rewarded with a stunning display of electric and acoustic guitar playing. Justin has been a member of Pink’s touring band for 4 years playing live shows to approximately 1 million people per year. He has also played with Beyonce and Tina Turner at this year’s Grammy Awards to a TV audience of hundreds of millions and is the most sought after studio session recording guitarist in the world. The GMEC jazz students played a warm up set which Justin applauded and went on to say that he had started his music career studying jazz at university and urged the students to follow through with their studies and their dreams. After performing, Justin answered questions from the audience and went on to describe his journey to become a professional musician. When asked about memorable moments touring with Pink he recounted one gig where he put on the flying harness usually reserved for Pink to fly above the stadium audience and surprised her by taking off and playing his guitar solo 40 feet up in the air, she laughed at the joke and then instructed the crew to leave him hanging up there for the next two songs. The night was a successful partnership between 94.7 The Pulse, GMEC and local music store Music Workshop. |
