| New arrivals become the New Leaders |
|
8 leaders from the Karen and Karenni communities followed a leadership course organized by Diversitat's Community and Settlement team facilitated by Mark Herd. The main objective was to empower the community leaders to manage their newly incorporated associations and their members. During the 12 sessions the participants learnt some basic computer skills, how to file documents, search and apply for relevant funding, keep proper records of income and expenditures of their funds, the legal requirements and procedures to be followed to run an association, how to take minutes and other handy hints and tips. Translated materials and interpreters were provided by Diversitat, ensuring participants were able to interact and learn as much as possible. At the end of the course, the community leaders were proud to receive a certificate and expressed how they are now far more confident in managing their associations and the funds they receive. The Liberian, Sudanese, Afghan and Congolese community leaders will be next to complete the course. |
