Meyer Eidelson presents 'The Wild White Man'

The Seniors Festival is on again and Diversitat Aged Support has been funded to facilitate a fantastic forum as part of 'Seniors Month', held in October each year.

The Forum titled "The Wild White Man" of Geelong is a presentation by Meyer Eidelson, who shares experiences from his Expedition using photographs, book readings, indigenous artefacts and a display of bush tucker.

Meyer Eidelson, author and historian, gives a multimedia presentation about the escaped convict and early settler William Buckley, who lived for 32 years with the Wathaurong in the Geelong area before white settlement in 1835. In 1985 Meyer walked the 320 kilometre  journey around Port Phillip Bay following Buckley escape trail to compare the modern landscape with the one recorded by Buckley 130 years earlier. His aim was to prove that Victoria has an Aboriginal history as well as a European one. Buckley’s story which was recorded in an 1857 book has been the subject of much controversy and debate. In this presentation Meyer shares experiences from his Expedition using photographs, book readings, indigenous artefacts and a display of bush tucker.
