Diversitat Creative Recycling
By fostering community participation, providing environmental education programs and developing strong sustainable partnerships with local schools, organisations, businesses and government, Diversitat Creative Recycling endeavours to highlight the importance of waste minimisation through reducing, re-using and recycling to the wider community.
Creative Recycling is a social enterprise committed to diverting significant waste streams from landfill into creative and innovative uses by collecting clean industrial and commercial waste. Many local businesses and organisations such as Alcoa, Deakin University, Camera House and the Body Shop, just to name a few, have embraced the opportunity to donate off cuts to this important initiative; we would like to encourage many more organisations to follow in these footsteps. The general community can then purchase this waste, at minimum cost, for re-use to make art and craft items, school projects, sets and props, as well as a multitude of other items.
Creative Recycling participated in a variety of local festivals with the opportunity to facilitate art and craft workshops using recycled materials. Some of these festivals included:
- Geelong Performing Arts Centres Annual Poppy Kettle Festival
- Art and Craft Workshops for kindergarten and school aged children
- Pako Festa - workshops
Creative Recycling vast membership currently stands at 170 members. Members are primarily schools, day care and child care centres, kindergartens and community organisations, which include Karingal, Youth Courthouse Art Project, City of Greater Geelong Youth Services, GATE, Surfcoast Shire and local theatre groups. Creative Recycling continues to offer in-kind support to these organisations throughout the year.
Creative Recycling values its partnership with Barwon Regional Waste Management Group in developing school-based programs focussing on recycling issues.
